FRSC launches ‘Operation Scorpion’ in Delta to reduce articulated vehicle crashes
In a bid to reduce road accidents involving articulated vehicles, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Delta State Command on Monday launched `Operation Scorpion`.
Launching the operation in Agbor, the Zonal Commanding Officer of FRSC, Mr Shehu Zaki, said that the exercise was aimed at sensitising owners and drivers of articulated vehicles to the need to be more careful while driving on the highway.
Zaki said: “The essence of this operation is to provide all-round checks on the vehicles and drivers in view of heir perennial involvement in avoidable accidents.
“Some of the drivers see themselves as kings of the road that must be obeyed by other road users.
“I want our officers and men to carry out this duty diligently as professionals without compromise. I believe that my men will not be involved in bribery and corruption so that no defaulter will go unpunished.”
Zaki directed the officers to ensure that they established the road worthiness and mechanical fitness of the vehicles as well as the authenticity of drivers’ licenses to fish out violators.
He urged the officers and men of the commission to take down the details of the vehicles whose drivers refused to stop for routine checks for necessary action.
In his contribution, the Delta Sector Commander of the commission, Mr Rindom Kumven, who said that FRSC was not under pressure to embark on the operation.
Kumven said that the operation was to help reduce the involvement of articulated vehicles in fatal accidents as well as make the roads in the state accident-free.
He said that the commission would not relent in its effort to reduce the rate of accident on the highways.
