LASG Rejects S/ Leone, CIV Nations Cup Match In Lagos

Lagos State Government yesterday turned down Nigeria Football Federation plans to host Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast Africa Cup of Nations qualifier to be played at the Thunder Teslim Balogun Stadium on September 6.
Sierra Leone are banned from hosting international matches due to the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus but a ban on domestic football in Serra Leaone was lifted earlier this month.
It was gathered yesterday that Lagos State refusal to host the match was not unconnected to the safety of Lagos citizens.
A shocked Nigeria Football Federation were making frantic efforts lastnight to relocate the match to Port Harcourt but our source was not emphatic as they needed confirmation from Rivers State Government.
The Leone Stars delegation were expected in Lagos lastnight and would have lodged at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, while the Elephants are expected to arrive Lagos on Wednesday.
