There Is So Much Wealth In Nigeria,' U2 Lead Dinger, Bono Speaks

 
On Friday, August 28, 2015, lead singer of U2 and ONE’s co-founder, Bono joined top Nigerian music acts that include D’Banj, Diamond, Banky W and Femi Kuti for the remake of Strong Girl song – a rallying cry for women’s empowerment featuring some of Africa’s top female stars that first got the world dancing in May. Produced by Cobhams Asuquo, the new version of the song that originally featured Selmor Mtukudzi, Waje and Yemi Alade, had the famous musician interacting with Nigerian music stars.
Pulse met with Bono to talk about his views and reasons for the ONE Campaign.
Are you happy with the progress of One.org in Nigeria?
"There is something significant and serious happening in Nigeria now with One.org. We now have more members in Africa than in Europe and the majority of them are in Nigeria"
 "I was in Lagos in support of the Strong Girl project. The women who recorded Strong girl are remarkable"

What is your interest in Africa?
"I am more interested in social justice issues. At 18 I worked with the anti-Apartheid movement. For me, social justice became a love affair. "
"I had never been to Lagos. Lagos is the next New York. Lagos is the thing"
"Africa is on the brink of massive changes. The next wave is the one that sweeps all the nonsense away."
"The next leaders, the new generation have the right things in their hearts"
"There is so much wealth in Nigeria. The trick is to make the wealth inclusive"
"There is a transparency revolution happening now. Mobile technology is leading this. Event the most basic phone can help with transparency as SMSs quickly communicate things across the continent"
"The money that has been stolen by the leaders in Africa could pay for every girl to go to school, for every person to have high-speed internet"
