Experience: Kushner is married to Ivanka Trump. He runs his family’s real estate company, Kushner. Until recently, he was the publisher of The New York Observer . It was recently announced that he will be stepping down and selling his ownership stake in the newspaper to a family trust. There is a question of whether Kushner’s role in the new administration violates an anti-nepotism law passed in the 1960s.

Position: Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA)
Experience: McMahon co-founded and is the former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and was a Republican Senate candidate from Connecticut in 2010 and 2012.

Experience: Lighthizer is an attorney and a partner at New York City law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Lighthizer was deputy U.S. trade representative under Ronald Reagan.

Experience: Pompeo is currently a Republican congressman from Kansas’s fourth district, a role he’s held since 2011. Prior to his political career, he ran a company called Thayer Aerospace, which was sold in 2006.

Position: Secretary of State
Experience: Tillerson has worked for oil and gas company ExxonMobil since 1975, and in 2006 he became the company’s CEO. In 2013, Tillerson received Russia’s Order of Friendship. According to The Washington Post , the award was given to Tillerson after Exxon completed a deal with Russian oil company Rosneft that involved drilling for fossil fuels in the Arctic.

Experience: Mnuchin is the co-founder and CEO of Dune Capital Management. He is also the co-founder of OneWest Bank Group, which was sold in 2015. He was also a partner at Goldman Sachs, where he worked for 17 years. In recent years, Mnuchin has produced several films, including American Sniper , The Lego Movie and Suicide Squad .

Position: Secretary of Commerce
Experience: For 25 years, Ross worked at New York investment banking firm Rothschild Inc. In 2000, he founded WL Ross & Co, another investment firm, and sold it six years later, but stayed on as chief strategy officer and chairman. This summer, WL Ross & Co paid a $2.3 million fine to the Securities and Exchange Commission on charges that it didn’t properly disclose fees that the firm charged investors.

Experience: Shulkin is currently the Under Secretary of Health for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Police Injured In Protests, Nearly 100 Arrested At Trump Inauguration

A pair of police officers were injured and 95 protesters arrested after they smashed windows, damaged cars and threw rocks at police near Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony on Friday in Washington, D.C.

Two DC police officers and one other person were taken to the hospital for undetermined injuries after run-ins with protesters, DC Fire Spokesman Vito Maggiolo told CNN. The injuries are non-life threatening.
After the swearing-in ceremony, demonstrators near 12th and K streets threw rocks and bottles at police, who were clad in riot gear and attempting to disperse the crowd. A large number of police were on scene and used smoke and flash-bang devices to try to scatter the protesters.

Lagos State Governor Akinwumi Ambode Earmarks 181 LG Roads For Construction In 2017

Lagos state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday, January 19, said that his administration would consolidate on its infrastructural renewal drive with the construction of 181 local government roads in the current fiscal year, saying the process for the award of the contract would commence next week.


Governor Ambode, who spoke at the first Quarterly Town Hall Meeting for 2017, the sixth in the series, held at the Ajelogo Housing Scheme, Ajelogo Market Road, Akanimodo, Mile 12, said the 181 roads, is an improvement on the 114 roads, two in each local government, which his administration promised to embark upon every year.

Acknowledging that most of the requests made by residents during the interactive session at the Town Hall Meeting were majorly on roads owing to the success of the 114 roads delivered in September 2016, the Governor said his administration thought it wise to ensure that the roads captured for 2017 are key roads that would have economic impact on the people living in that axis, hence the increase to 181 roads.

The American President Donald Trump is preparing to sign executive actions on his first day in the White House on Friday to take the opening steps to crack down on immigration, build a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border and roll back outgoing President Barack Obama's policies.


Trump, a Republican elected on Nov. 8 to succeed Democrat Obama, arrived in Washington on a military plane with his family a day before he will be sworn in during a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol.

Aides said Trump would not wait to wield one of the most powerful tools of his office, the presidential pen, to sign several executive actions that can be implemented without the input of Congress.

"He is committed to not just Day 1, but Day 2, Day 3 of enacting an agenda of real change, and I think that you're going to see that in the days and weeks to come," Trump spokesman Sean Spicer said on Thursday, telling reporters to expect activity on Friday, during the weekend and early next week.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the audio recording released by an online media platform is proof that Governor Nyesom Wike rigged the just concluded Rivers rerun election.
Sahara Reporters earlier released an audio recording where someone purported to be Wike allegedly threatened to kill an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The House of Representatives on Thursday asked the Federal Government to suspend its new policy of banning the importation of vehicles through land borders.
The lawmakers specifically advised President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene by urgently directing the Nigeria Customs Service to reverse the policy.
The policy is expected to come into effect from January 1, 2017.
Instead of enforcing a ban, the House called on the government to ensure that security agencies manned the land borders diligently to enforce the payment of import duties and ensure the remittance of same to the treasury.
“The House further urges the government to install border security and surveillance equipment for effective monitoring to address the recurring menace of smuggling and ensure a maximum revenue generation on all lawfully-imported goods,” the resolution stated.

Nigerian States To Get N20b Each For Infrastructure

The Federal Government is on the verge of refunding at least N20 billion to each of the 36 states for infrastructural development.
Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara made this disclosure yesterday while responding to the Igwe of Ogwuekpele, His Royal Highness Igwe Valentine B.C. Onyema Ogidiga, who had expressed concern on dilapidating infrastructure in Anambra State.

The speaker, who was in Igwe’s palace on a courtesy visit, said the Federal Government was planning to invest in infrastructure and provision of capital.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Mr. Iliya Habila, further quoted Dogara as saying that when the money is refunded to the states, it would assist them in providing critical infrastructure.


According to the speaker, “As regards debts being owed to states, I can announce that very soon no state will get less than N20 billion from the money that is coming.
“I believe they will be able to translate that money into development so that they could support the diversification policy of the Federal Government.”

Bridge Collapsed On A Busy Road In Italy

One person has been killed and five others injured after a bridge collapsed over a busy road in Italy.

The bridge, in Lecco, fell when a heavy goods vehicle, weighing 108 tonnes, crossed over it around 3.20pm this afternoon.

At least four cars were involved in the crash and one was completely crushed underneath the collapsed bridge.

But the bridge had collapsed before an inspector could get to it.

Lecco officials have denied Anas’s version of events.

A preliminary criminal investigation has now been opened.

Cybercrime: How To Tackle N78bn Yearly Losses, By FG

The Federal Government has listed key measures to be taken in Nigeria by individuals, corporate organisations and the governments to combat the N78 billion annual losses to increasing wave of cybercrime in the country.
The Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, listed the strategies during a recent national computer science conference on cyber security and the emerging African economies at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.
According to Adebayo, an effective response to cybercrimes requires a robust network security, including appropriate network architecture and software, use of encryption, data protection legislation, information security standards and other tools of threat protection and detection.
Other counter measures are to increase the awareness of information and communication technology (ICT) and cyberspace stakeholders on the need and possible strategies for combating and defeating cybercrime in all its ramifications and reduce the risk of data breaches and financial losses.
He said the country also needed to improve the capacity of relevant ICT and cyberspace stakeholders for the training and support of cyber security officials; share cyber security best practice from across the globe; build the capacity of local law enforcement in cybercrime prevention and cyber security footprint and ensure our curriculum adopt Internet Security education.
Besides, he stressed the need for advanced application development for capacity building and the encouragement of continuous research for development of indigenous security solutions, applications and tools to combat emerging threats in the fifth domain.
“We also need to build different layers of security defence such as installing Anti-virus tools, Firewall, Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Honey Pot, System On Chip (SOC) and many more as well as show effectual strategies for drawing on the strengths of telecommunications in their efforts to tackle cybercrime,” he said.
Adebayo, however, said the Internet and digital technologies are the biggest transformational forces in the world today. “There are over five billion Internet-connected devices globally and in 2015 online commerce contributed over $10 trillion to the global economy,” he said.
According to him, the changing nature of economic and territorial threats have raised global concerns, stressing that the growing role of cyberspace has opened up new threats and new opportunities.
“This country must find ways to confront and overcome these threats if we are to remain functional as a sovereign entity in an increasingly competitive and globalised world,” he said.
He, therefore, disclosed that in the face of rising global insecurity and terrorism, the ministry is ready to partner with agencies to catalyse and develop world-class human and institutional capacity in cyber security.
According to him, the need for other frameworks such as cyber security awareness across business; cooperative arrangements between law enforcement and communication service providers across the nation and a criminal justice system that facilitate the efficient prosecution of cases of cybercrime are very germane.
“As we plan to settle into our duties of protecting our individual or corporate data, we ought to be continuously conscious of the reality of the cyber woes out there. Hence, there can be no better time to emphasise the need for strategic, continuous and innovative plans with respect to protecting our cyber space,” he said.

The FG Is Leaving No Stone Unturned - Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, yesterday told the visiting Director, African Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Mr. Abebe Aemro Selassie, that the Federal Government was leaving no stone unturned in its bid to make infrastructure development a priority.
Taking the visiting IMF chief through some of the initiatives of the current administration, the Minister in a statement, said the President Muhammadu Buhari administration was doing everything to make Nigeria productive in every aspect.
This, she said, would be achieved by shifting emphasis to the development of infrastructure, which had been neglected by previous administrations. She said with a population of about 180 million people, Nigeria has no choice but to be productive, adding that this can only be achieved through infrastructure.
She recalled : “The allocation for capital projects in 2015 budget was just 10 per cent while the recurrent was 90 per cent which had been the case in the past six to seven years.”
Adeosun gave assurance that the Federal Government was working with the private sector. , and justified Nigeria’s deficit budget, saying there is no problem with running a deficit budget as long as it is done with emphasis on capital project financing.

Earthquake Shakes Central Italy

Two strong earthquakes have hit central Italy, damaging buildings and sending scared residents into the streets.
A 5.5-magnitude quake struck at 1910 local time (1710 GMT) near Visso in Macerata province, officials said.
It was followed two hours later by a 6.1 magnitude tremor in the same area. Several people were hurt, but there were no immediate reports of deaths.
The quakes come two months after a powerful earthquake struck slightly to the south, killing 298 people.
The 6.2 magnitude quake, on 24 August, toppled buildings in Amatrice and villages in the mountainous region around the town, which is just 70km (45 miles) from Visso.
Wednesday’s earthquakes were felt across central Italy, including in the capital, Rome, where buildings shook and doors and windows rattled.
“Tens” of people were reported hurt, but only four people suffered serious injuries, Italy’s civil protection chief Fabrizio Curcio said.
The BBC’s Katya Adler, in Rome, says that emergency services in the affected areas are still assessing the situation.
The second earthquake was considerably stronger than the first and numerous smaller aftershocks have occurred. One witness told Italian TV he saw part of a building collapse in front of him.
The town of Camerino is thought to have been badly damaged, although the full extent of damage will not become apparent until after the darkness lifts on Thursday morning.
One resident told the BBC: “Everyone is leaving Camerino by foot or car to seek safety. Two churches are destroyed and many houses [have] fallen.”
In Campo, near Norcia in the Umbria region, the late 15th century San Salvatore church collapsed. It had been weakened by the earthquake in August.
There are also reports of downed power lines, damage to historic buildings and a landslide on a main road north of Rome.
“It was a very strong earthquake, apocalyptic,” Marco Rinaldi, mayor of Ussita to the east of Visso, told Italy’s Ansa news agency, referring to the second earthquake.
“People are screaming on the street and now we are without lights.”
Schools in the region will remain closed on Thursday, our correspondent reports.
Prime Minister Matteo Renzi is on his way to Rome, local media (in Italian) say.
The first earthquake, 7km south-southwest of Visso, was relatively shallow, at a depth of 9km (nearly six miles).
The second, at 2118 local time, was 2km north-northwest of Visso, at a depth of 10km.
These tremors were linked to the August earthquake, Italian officials said.
“Aftershocks can last for a long time, sometimes for months,” AFP news agency quoted Mario Tozzi of Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics as saying.

Customers Set To Fight CBN, Banks Over BVN

Chairman of BCAN, Dr. Uju Ogubunka, told Vanguard yesterday that the association was meeting this week to, among other things, marshal out course of action to protect customers’ right to full and unrestricted access to their account, irrespective of their BVN status.
Several banks had sent out messages to their customers last week warning that access to their accounts would be barred unless they were BVN compliant by October 31.
Spokesman for Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Ibrahim Muazu, told Vanguard yesterday that denial of access to non-BVN compliant accounts had gone into force and the apex bank would not extend the deadline for compliance as it did last June, when the first deadline expired.

For the second time since he exited office on May 29, former president Goodluck Jonathan Monday visited his successor, President Mohammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The meeting which held behind closed doors at the New Banquet Hall of the State House barely lasted for ten minutes.
Jonathan arrived at about 2.00 pm and left at 2.13pm after the meeting.
Though the reason for his visit was not disclosed, feelers said he may have visited to intimate president Buhari on the outcome of the election in Tanzania.
It would be recalled that the former President led the Commonwealth Election Observer Group to observe the conduct of the Tanzanian General election which held recently.

Ignore Messages Requesting For BVN – CBN Informs The Public

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday urged bank customers to be cautious of unknown individuals alerting them on the deactivation of their bank accounts due to incomplete registration for Bank Verification Number.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Ibrahim Mu’azu, Director, Corporate Communications of the CBN posted on the apex bank’s website.

The statement gave example of the message as: Dear customers, due to the new BVN policy of the CBN your account have been deactivated and to reactivate call….

The Central Bank of Nigeria wishes to warn individuals and the general public that those messages are intended to lure bank account holders to reveal their personal details with which the fraudsters could use to defraud them.

The statement warned the public that neither the CBN nor their employees or agents would ever call bank customers or send e-mail/text messages requesting for passwords, card details or Personal Identification Number.

It, however, advised bank customers to personally visit their banks for any issue requiring disclosure of personal bank details.

China Ends One Child Policy

China announced the end of its hugely controversial one-child policy on Thursday, after decades of strict, sometimes brutal enforcement left it with an ageing population and shrinking workforce that has heightened the challenges of slowing economic growth.
All couples will be allowed two children, the official Xinhua news agency reported, citing a communique issued by the ruling Communist Party following a four-day meeting in Beijing.
The historic change was "intended to balance population development and address the challenge of an ageing population", Xinhua said.
It was "good news for the couples who wish to have a second child," Maya Wang of Human Rights Watch told AFP, but "the restrictions on reproduction rights remain in China".
"As long as the quotas and system of surveillance remains, women still do not enjoy reproductive rights," she said, adding that change in policy was for "primarily economic reasons".

n Twitter: "'Two Child Policy' won't end forced sterilisations, forced abortions, gov control over birth permits."
Campaigners welcomed the move, but stressed that a "two-child policy" still meant that China would retain population control mechanisms -- while demographic changes will take decades to have an effect, and previous loosenings led to fewer extra births than expected.

The Clinton Police Department released sordid details about the recent kidnapping and subsequent sexual abuse of a Florida man visiting Jackson, Mississippi to participate in a bodybuilding competition.
The unnamed victim was walking through downtown Jackson when 43 year old Cathy Priest allegedly forced him by gunpoint into her Mazda Miata and drove him to her mobile home in nearby Clinton.
The victim’s hands and ankles were bound and a butt plug inserted into his rectum. He was then forced to perform oral sex on Melon for up to 4 hours at a time, over the course of seven days.
