 There is an array of makeup products on the market today and this sometimes makes it hard to find the right products. Even after we find the right foundation, lipstick and eyeliner, we also find that it is so easy to apply these products wrong. However, in order to apply makeup the right way, we first need to discover what the mistakes are so they can be avoided.

Using makeup that is expired

Like anything else, makeup does have an expiration date. If you have makeup products in your drawer and you can’t remember how long they have been there, it is time to throw them away. Expired makeup is not effective anymore plus it can cause eye infections and skin irritations.

Not cleaning makeup brushes and sponges

The last thing you want to do is apply your makeup with dirty brushes and sponges. This will not only cause your makeup not to look fresh but can also cause your skin to breakout. It is important that you wash your brushes and sponges with mild soap and water and also your sponges need to be replaced regularly.

 Applying blush incorrectly

Some women make the mistake of applying just a circle of blush on their cheeks, making them look like a clown. Blush should be applied gently, not with a heavy hand so that you end up with too much blush. Look in a mirror, smile and apply the blush from your apple cheeks to your temple, keeping along the cheekbone.

Choosing the wrong shade of foundation

Most women make this mistake at one time or another. The good news is that it is easy enough to correct. Select two shades of foundation that are very close to your skin tone. Apply both of them to your jawline and then look in a mirror, using natural light and select the most natural looking shade.
