Saraki

ALTHOUGH the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has not made a definite official pronouncement on where the Senate President should come from in the next political dispensation, all eyes are on the North-Central as the most likely, out of the six geo-political zone, to produce Nigeria’s number three citizen.
As the position of the President has gone to the Northwest and the Vice-President to the Southwest in the unprecedented alliance of the two zones in the country’s political history, ordinarily, the position of the Senate President should go to either the Southeast or the South-South.

Importance of Bank Verification Number

THE Bank Verification Number, BVN, is an-other important step the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, is using to strengthen the security of banking transactions and to ensure that fraudulent transactions are minimised, if not totally eliminated. The campaign is on, but the public may not realise its importance until it closes in June 2015.
Yet as the public embraces the initiative with enthusiasm, it should be aware that some fraudsters are trying to undermine the exercise by providing seemingly easier registration options for bank account holders. They request these details online and threaten that the account would be closed if the owner does not provide them the details. Their target is the account holder’s money. The best way of enrolling remains direct communication with one’s bank.

The Realities Of Fighting Poverty – World Bank President

Jim-Yong-Kim-World-bank-president

At the just concluded Spring Meetings of the IMF/World Bank Group, Dr. Jim Yong Kim fielded questions from journalists. Excerpts:
Dr. Kim, when you said this isn’t about spending billions of dollars, this is spending trillions of dollars. Now you’re talking about trillions, you’re talking about the private sector, the profit-seeking private sector. Governments usually know how to work with the non-profit sector, but they don’t really know how to work effectively with the profit-seeking.

Ijaw Group Request GEJ To Grant Presidential Pardon To James Ibori Before He Leaves Aso Rock

An Ijaw group called the Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI, in Delta State, over the weekend asked President Jonathan to grant presidential pardon to former governor of Delta state, James Ibori, before he leaves as president of Nigeria on May 29th.
"Ibori should be freed. Hundreds of persons, who looted heavily from government coffers are walking freely in the streets. The continuous incarceration of one corrupt man among a million other corrupt citizens cannot change the menace of high level corruption in the country. Ibori’s imprisonment could be seen as a witch-hunt and such is highly barbaric and provocative and the Nigerian government must quickly do something about his matter. Despite the ordeals Ibori is passing through, Deltans hold him in high esteem and his great achievements while in office cannot be discountenanced.
There should be no sacred cow among political office holders. Ibori’s case is not different, he is a victim of circumstances. Release him and let him breathe fresh air and let other corrupt public office holders be tried as well.” National President the group, Mr. Austin Ozobo, in interactive with newsmen, said (Vanguard)

An exhaustive probe of  the key flip-flops that led to President Goodluck Jonathan’s defeat and how the President lost the goodwill that earned him victory in 2011.
By Charles Kumolu
ONLY unrealistic optimists were   surprised that President Goodluck Jonathan lost Nigeria’s keenly contested poll.
The pointers to what was imminent for the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, were so discernible in the build up, that the President in the days leading to the poll admitted the surging popularity of the opposition meant that his party would not  secure a landslide in the presidential, parliamentary and governorship contests.
Though he explicitly affirmed that he was not losing sleep over the development, the pre-election electoral map was such that rubbished every optimism he may have had.
