The police have arraigned a 37-year-old manager, Nonso Onyeji, for stealing his company’s N1.7m.
Onyeji was arraigned before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The matter reportedly occurred between August and October, 2013.
The company, Ritbath Cargo Company, Ajao Estate, Lagos, was said to have been managed by one Ugochukwu Rita.
It was learnt that Onyeji headed a branch of the company in Onitsha, Anambra State.
However, Onyeji allegedly remitted the returns on sales into his personal account instead of the company’s account.
It was learnt that he gave out his personal bank account number to customers, into which they made their payments.
Onyeji was subsequently arrested and arraigned in court.
He was charged with fraud, conspiracy and stealing.
The charges read in part, “That you,
Nonso Onyeji, between August and October, 2013, on Alhaji Lukman Street,
Ajao Estate, Lagos, did steal the sum of N1.7m from one Ugochukwu Rita,
and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 285 of the
Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”
Onyeji pleaded not guilty. The magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Erinle, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N250,000.
The matter was adjourned till September 7, 2015.
