Bursting out tells the story of a woman’s search for true love. The movie opens with ZahraWilliams (Genevieve Nnaji), a successful executive who can’t get enough of work. Her friends, Teena (Nse Nkpe Etim) and Ini(Omoni Oboli)frown at the fact that she’s the only single lady among them and should settle down, Zahra is so enmeshed with work amd says she hasn’t found the right man for her.
Seeing that she won’t bulge, Teena sets her up for dinner with Bernard Onikoyi(Desmond Elliot); a guy whom Zahra discovers is proud and conceited. He succeeds in ruining the date and she scampers away. Still, her friends are on her case. They hook her up with another man who turns out to be worse than Bernard(He’s shapeless to her charign) As events unfold, Zahra needs an escort for a Valentine’s ball dinner and she bumps into,Tyrone(Majid Michel),an attractive young man. They remain casual during the evening and exchange light banters and jabs too.Soon, the chemistry develops and Tyrone becomes bessoted with her.(She likes him from a distance too) Back in Zahra’s office, every member of staff are scared of the cold mein she puts to life. She offset’s Onome’s (Moyo Lawal)pending house rent to everyone’s surprise. On the other hand, Tyrone tries to impress Zahra by borrowing his friend, Ebuka’s (Uti Nwachukwu) apartment and car. He advises Tyrone to be honest with as she’ll be devastated when she finds out the true position of things. Tyrone lets the game on. Zahra’s friends notice visible changes in her and want to know what is amiss and she opens up to them, eventually about her new found love. Teena is surprised though as she introduced a certain Tony (not Tyrone). An argument ensues between the two friends over the real identity of Zahra’s date and they agree to clarify issues with Tony. On getting there, Zahra gets the shock of her life when she sees Tyrone working as a dispatch rider! She rushes to his supposed house where she meets Ebuka who says he’s not back from work.(Things begin to fall into place)She confronts Tyrone who says she didn’t give her time to explain the first day they met(Apparently, he had come to deliver a message from his boss, Tony)Needless to say, she’s heartbroken and consequently, Tyrone lost his job. Suddenly, Ibeiere(Susan Peters) an old flame of Tyrone shows up and he wades her off as his heart remains with Zahra. All pleas to the latter fell on deaf ears. He finds time to see Zahra to apologise and came clean with her(bursting out)and they move on. Zahra helps him to find his passion again in football which had been on hold for a while.Like a bolt out of the blues. “Tyrone is re-instated with his Dutch football club and he finally re-unites with Zahra cheers him up during his matches and their peserverance takes them to a whole new world(marraige) Bursting out reminiscent of the American movie, The Seat Filler(featuring Duane Martin and Kelly Rowland as lead acts) but different in terms of plot and interpretation. It drives home the point that inspite of one’s status in the society, love can take you to the most unsual of places.(As in the case of Tyrone and Zahra)There was great acting synergy from Nigerian regulars; Genevieve Nnaji,Nse Nkpe Etim and Omoni Oboli with superb diction as an advantage. Desmond Elliot made a cameo appearance while upcoming acts like Moyo Lawal and Big Brother Africa winner, Uti Nwachukwu did brilliantly well. Worthy of note is the role of Tyrone which was played by Ghanaian actor,Majid Michel who now feels at home in Nigeria. On the whole, the movie is okay.
