The Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has raided the Oshodi area of the state, arresting 34 suspected hoodlums.
It was learnt that the operatives of the task force stormed Oshodi at the early hours on Tuesday and arrested the suspected hoodlums, who had been accused by the residents of robbing innocent people in the area.
It was further learnt that the raid was a fresh move by the government to bring back sanity into the area.
Our correspondent gathered that of the 34 miscreants that were arrested in Oshodi, nine of them were underage persons.
Two of the suspects were released after it was discovered that they were arrested in error, while the rest 32 were detained.
The task force Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman, a Chief Superintendent of Police, said the hoodlums were arrested with hard drugs.
He said, “The task force got information that a woman was attacked earlier in the day by hoodlums in Oshodi. This made the raid inevitable.
“There have been incessant complain by residents of Oshodi over activities of the hoodlums. They blamed the government for the return of the hoodlums to Oshodi.
“But the reality is that whenever we raid them, some of the hoodlums will go into hiding.”
The task force chairman warned other hoodlums to vacate Oshodi, saying the unit would go after them and bring them to book.
Sulaiman said the task force deliberately slowed down its activities in Oshodi during the elections so that it would not be accused of taking sides with any political party. He added that since the elections were over, the task force would ensure that there was sanity again in Oshodi.
He said the adults among the hoodlums would be charged to court, while the underage would be taken to the Lagos State Remand Home, Ojota.
