President Muhammadu Buhari, has reportedly called for an emergency meeting of Senators and House of Representatives members from the All Progressives Congress.
As a result of the inability of the lawmakers to choose a consensus candidate ahead of the National Assembly leadership election, Buhari, appeared to have no option than to go against his earlier stance of non-interference with the process.
The meeting summoned by the President, is expected to hold on Tuesday morning at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
According to TheCable, the meeting to resolve the crisis, will commence from 9am, before the federal lawmakers proceed to the national assembly complex to elect their leaders.
The notice of the meeting was reportedly sent out by the party’s national publicity secretary, Lai Mohammed, who said “all concerned must endeavour to attend”.
The APC leadership had held a mock election at the weekend and picked Ahmad Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as the official candidates for Senate President and Speaker, however, the two other contenders for the posts, Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara, rejected the outcome.
On Monday night, the Peoples Democratic Party, sought to capitalise on the disunity in the APC, by officially endorsing Saraki and Dongara for Senate president and Speaker.
Hence, the need for the emergency meeting, as summoned by President Muhammadu Buhari.
