Buhari Appoints Moh’d Kari As New Insurance Commissioner

Alhaji Mohammed Kari has been named by President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, as Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive of the National Insurance Commission, effective immediately.
The appointment was announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.
Kari, who began his career with Royal Exchange Assurance in 1979 and later worked with Yankari Insurance Company until 1989, was an Executive Director in Niger Insurance Plc until January 1992 when he was appointed Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation. He later moved on to NICON Insurance Corporation and occupied the position of Managing Director in March 1993 up until January 2000 when he resigned.
He later returned to insurance management as the Managing Director/Chief Executive of Unity Kapital Assurance Plc in 2007 where he served for four years.
Alhaji Mohammed Kari, who is a Chartered Insurer, was until his new appointment, the Deputy Commissioner (Technical) in the National Insurance Commission.
The President also renewed the appointment of Mr. Joshua Okpo as Rector of the Maritime Academy, Oron another term of four years.
