26 Year Old Man To Receive 12 Lashes And A Six Months Jail Term For Criminal Trespass
A 26-year-old Labourer, Haruna Ahmed, was on Wednesday sentenced to six months imprisonment and 12 lashes of cane by a Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for criminal trespass Ahmed of Iddo Sarki Pada, Abuja, was docked on a three -count charge of being in possession of things reasonable suspected to be stolen, criminal trespass and attempt to steal. The Senior Judge, Mr Gambo Garba, handed down the sentence to Ahmed after he pleaded guilty to the crime of criminal trespass. Garba sentence Ahmed to 6 month imprisonment or N10 ,000 option of fine for criminal trespass, and 12 lashes of cane for theft He also ordered him to be remanded in Kuje Prison for being in possession of counterfeit dollars till June 29 for hearing. He warned the convict to be of good behaviour and desist from crimes after serving out his punishment for criminal trespass. Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Anigbo Paul, told the court that on May 26, one Bright Clement of Iddo village, Abuja, lodged the complaint at the Iddo Police Station.
Paul also told the court that the convict allegedly criminally trespassed into the complainant’s bedroom through the window. He said that the complainant saw the convict in his bedroom removing his LG plasma television from the wall and packed it inside its carton with the intention to steal. He said that when the convict sighted the complainant, he took to his heels. Paul added that since then the convict has been on the run, until May 25 when he was arrested by one Charity Owa, a woman police attached to Iddo Police Station. He alleged that when the convict was apprehended, during police interrogation some counterfeit dollars were found in his possession. The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 319A, 348, 354 and 289 of the Penal Code. The convict also denied the allegations of being in possession of things reasonable suspected to be stolen and theft.
