President Goodluck Jonathan comes across as one of the favourites in tomorrow’s election. Having learnt the ropes as a deputy governor, Vice-President, acting-President and President, he appears well groomed for the position he is seeking.

The fact that he is the incumbent President, creates an aura of edge around him, but that is limited by arguments that incumbency does not seem to be an asset in this race.

Sound Sultan’s message to politicians

Ahead of tomorrow’s presidential election, music artist, Sound Sultan has called on politicians to tread with caution, warning them to respect the people as well as the role they are poised to play in electing them into office.

He also sued for peace, a free and fair election, devoid of violence. The entertainer took to his Instagram page to express his worries. He writes, “I honestly would love to appeal to politicians to respect the people, and the role they play in putting them in power (if any) ! And the power they possess.

Consider people who have died on the roads you failed to construct. People who died in the hospitals you fail to maintain, people that fail to understand the meaning of National Pride because you gave them no reason to. Who ever gets the people’s votes, should consider “every hour you spend in power. God bless Nigeria.”

Unilever acquires N43bn shares of Nigerian unit

Unilever is planning to raise its stake in its Nigerian unit to as much as 75 percent to benefit from expected economic growth in Africa’s most populous nation.

Unilever, whose detergents and deodorants are used by 2 billion consumers daily, wants to raise its stake in Unilever Nigeria Plc from its current 50.05 percent, with the parent company buying as many as 944.5 million shares at N45.50 naira. That’s a premium of 34 percent to Unilever Nigeria’s closing share price on Monday. The deal, at the intended offer price and with maximum acceptance, is valued at N42.97 billion (about $218 million), Unilever said. Unilever intends to keep the Nigerian company’s listing on the local stock exchange.
